I'm Jamin.

I'm a Hell’s Kitchen resident, LGBTQ+ community activist, and immigration attorney working in deportation defense. I decided to launch this campaign because I realized that in this unprecedented moment for both our city and country it has never been more important for new voices to enter our system and challenge the political insiders who have been holding us back. My neighbors deserve public servants who not only care deeply about their day-to-day needs, but are also committed fighters for meaningful change.

I'm a survivor.

I grew up poor in a family of nine kids in rural Virginia. My parents struggled to make ends meet and there were plenty of hard days for us.

When I told my conservative Evangelical parents I was gay during my senior year of college, they disowned me and threw me out. Suddenly alone, I had to figure out how to build a new life for myself. It was an incredibly hard time that tested me, but I persevered.

I moved to New York City and found a supportive new community when I needed it most. I worked my way through law school and started my career as an immigration attorney.

And I'm ready to fight for you.

Knowing what it’s like to live paycheck to paycheck, I recognize that working New Yorkers can’t wait for the promise of incremental half-measures and need tangible progress right now. After fighting for myself after coming out and now fighting for my undocumented clients, I know that our neighbors need a tireless advocate committed to protecting their interests. Our leaders must provide a robust, courageous vision for change that will make a meaningful difference in our neighbors day-to-day lives.

The Third District deserves public servants whose life experiences connect them to their constituents' everyday needs. Our neighbors want results and should not be forced to settle for less than they deserve. I'm ready to fight for that change.
